16 stolen motorbikes handed over to owners

Kathmandu, September 15

Metropolitan Traffic Police Division today handed over 16 motorcycles, which it retrieved from different parts of the country, to their respective owners.

The motorcycles were lifted by racketeers from Kathmandu Valley and sold to their clients in rural and peri-urban areas.

DIG Sarbendra Khanal, MTPD in-charge, turned over the two-wheelers to the respective owners after verification of documents.

In response to complaints relating to bike theft, Victim Support Unit at MTPD searched for the two-wheelers and handed them over to concerned owners. MPTD deploys sleuths to intercept stolen bikes.

Almost all two-wheelers lifted from the city are sold to clients in rural parts that have road networks but lack presence of law enforcement officials. Hospital and cinema hall premises, and busy markets are more vulnerable to bike thefts, MTPD warned.

Negligence of bike owners, lack of lock and alarm system are blamed for increasing cases of bike theft.
