2 accused of Dhangadhi armed robbery arrested in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Police on Monday arrested two persons involved in Dhagadhi armed robbery that had taken place on May 27, from Gongabu of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team of police deployed from Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Teku, arrested Ram Prabesh Rana (28) of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-13 in Kailali district and Kalu Rana (23) of Krishnapur Municipality-9 of Kanchanpur district from Gongabu at 1:00 am today, informed MPCD.

The arrested duo have been accused of shooting and robbing a Global IME Bank staffer Nirmal Karki while he was returning after withdrawing Rs 950,000 from Siddhartha Bank in Dhangadi Sub-Metropolis-1 of Kailali.

Karki was injured after bullet injured his arm in the incident and had to be hospitalised, informed police. After the armed robbery, two persons under suspicion had been arrested the same day from Attariya in Kailali, however, they were later released after investigation pointed their lack of involvement in the case.

Meanwhile, MPCD during the investigation, found that Kalu Rana, had prior to this, been arrested and sentenced on rape charge in Kanchanpur district.

Kalu Rana was released on 2018 after fulfilling his six year jail sentence, informed police.
