2 fraudsters held
KATHMANDU: Two persons were arrested for defrauding relatives of two drug smuggling accused of Rs 50,000.
Krishna Shrestha (35) from Gorkha and Sunil Gopali (32) of Sundhara were arrested from KMC-16 on Friday.
The duo had assured relatives of Bal Kumari Rawat, a permanent resident of Sindhuli district, as well as Prajwal Raj Singh (21) of Birgunj that they would help Rawat and Singh get released from the police custody. They had demanded Rs 200,000 from the kin for the task.
Rawat and Singh are currently at the custody of Metropolitan Police Circle, Lainchaur.
While kin of the suspects had provided Rs 50,000, the alleged fraudsters were forcing them to pay Rs 150,000 more.
On Friday, the duo had called sister-in-law of Rawat to come to the Naya Pul in Naya Bazaar with Rs 20,000. But, police were tipped-off about the plan earlier and they were able to nab them from the meeting point.
Police are looking into the case.
