22 bikes retrieved, 5 suspects held

KATHMANDU: Traffic police have recovered 22 motorcycles that were stolen from various places in the Valley over a period of years.

A special squad assigned by Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD)had retrieved the two-wheelers from Chitwan and Makawanpur districts.

Superintendent of Police Rabi Raj Shrestha at MTPD said the motorcycles of different brands were brought to Kathmandu. “We’ve also arrested five persons in suspicion of their involvement in the bike theft,” he informed. According to him, the arrested include Jamsej Ansari, Raj Kumar Moktan, Kaji Lama, Duwa Lama and Chure Bahadur Waiba, all hailing from Makawanpur.

“All the bike owners have come into contact to claim their stolen properties,” he said, adding that eight motorcycles were already handed over to the rightful owners today.

The five suspects along with equal number of motorcycles have been sent to Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu, Hanumandhoka, for further legal proceedings. “We’re doing needful to hand over the remaining bikes to the respective owners by tomorrow,” said SP Shrestha.
