Kathmandu, July 30:
Departmental action was taken against 342 policemen of the Valley by the Police Headquarters in the last fiscal year for acts against professional ethics. According to the Valley Police Office, 170 police were sacked — two sub-inspectors and one assistant sub-inspector were among those sacked. Ten policemen were suspended and five demoted. Hundred-thirty-one policemen were given warnings by the police headquarters. The promotion of 12 policemen was stalled for a period of five years, while salary of 14 was reduced, police said. Spokesperson of the Valley Police, SSP Sanandan Prasad Kurmi, said action was taken against the guilty policemen after thorough investigation was carried out.
“If they were found guilty, we recommended the police headquarters to take appropriate action against the guilty policemen,” SSP Kurmi said. The posts of those punished ranged from a constable to a deputy superintendent of police (DSP). “Three DSPs were warned for their involvement in financial crimes,” he said, adding, “In the majority of cases, the policemen were found to have been involved in taking bribes, while some of them were
involved in stealing, looting and robbery.”
