39 youths selected from 3rd National Astronomy Olympiad 2016-Nepal

Nepal Astronomical Society has announced the result of the 3rd National Astronomy Olympiad 2016-Nepal that was held on June 11.

According to Suresh Bhattarai, chairperson of NASO, the National Astronomy Olympiad Organising Committee has carefully evaluated students’ performance in the School Leaving Certificate or equivalent level, and marks attained in the selection exam while preparing the result.

“Thirty-nine students with total score of 55.00 or above have been selected for the pre-closed camp session,” he added.

He informed that in order to have the best selection for the closed camp, they had introduced a pre-selection round. “Pre-closed camp session/s will be either telephone interview, or orientation, or exposure camp for selected students,” Bhattarai said, adding that the pre-closed camp will select students for the closed camp session/s for further preparation.

NASO said the closed camp session/s will announce the top five students as winners of the 3rd National Astronomy Olympiad 2016-Nepal and prepare them for participation in the upcoming 21st International Astronomy Olympia slated to be held from October 5 to 13, 2016 in Plovdiv-Pamporovo, Bulgaria; the 12th Asian Pacific Astronomy Olympiad from November 17-25, 2016 in Goheung, South Korea and 10th International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics from December 9-19, 2016 in Odisha, India.

Astronomy Olympaiad is an educational programme in which Nepali students studying at higher secondary level or those under 20 years of age who have not enrolled in universities can participate.
