Bodies of 23 Bangladeshis killed in US-Bangla crash flown back home
KATHMANDU: Bodies of 23 Bangladeshi nationals killed in the tragic US-Bangla aircraft crash were flown back in a special flight today.
Tribhuvan International Airport Spokesperson, Prem Nath Thakur informed that the bodies were 'loaded' on board a Bangladesh Air-Force flight, at around 12:45 pm, which took off around an hour later.
Identification of six additional people was established on Sunday while 17 bodies were identified earlier. The identity of three people who lost their lives in the ill-fated incident is yet to be ascertained, according to Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police, Manoj Neupaney.
Bodies of 22 Nepalis have been identified. Twenty bodies have been handed over to their families while two bodies still await their families at the morgue.
22 people survived the crash, of which 11 were Nepali nationals. While most of the survivors have been discharged, some are still undergoing treatment.
Spokesperson of Nepal Police, DIG Neupaney said that the official figure of those killed in the incident is 49.
The Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 twin turboprop was carrying 71 people while attempting to land at Tribhuvan International Airport, but instead crashed on landing, on March 12.
