5 metric tonnes of waste collected from Bagmati River

KATHMANDU:  Around five metric tonnes of waste were collected from the Bagmati River and its banks in Teku area of Kathmandu on Saturday.

Marking the 173rd week of the Bagmati Clean-Up Campaign, participants of the campaign today collected the river's waste in Teku and its surrounding area.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Environment Management Department Chief Rabinman Shrestha said that the collected waste had been presently kept at the KMC's Waste Collection Centre in Teku and it would be taken to Sisdol later.

Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Kathmandu Municipality, locals, representatives of various organisations active in garbage management sector and students participated in today's clean-up programme.

Bagmati Clean-Up campaign was launched around three years ago . Since then, various segments of the biggest river in Kathmandu Valley are being cleaned-up weekly.
