547 lawmakers cast votes in Vice-presidential election

KATHMANDU: Voting process for the Vice-presidential election has concluded.

The election was held at the Legislature-Parliament building on Saturday.

Out of 596 lawmakers, 547 lawmakers cast their votes.

During the presidential election, however, there were 597 lawmakers. Of them, the then CPN-UML lawmaker Bidya Devi Bhandari has already resigned from the Parliament after her election to the post of President.

UCPN-Maoist Standing Committee member Nanda Bahadur Pun and Nepali Congress leader Amiya Kumar Yadav are locking their horns for the post.

Senior UML leader Jhalanath Khanal proposed Pun for the post of Vice-President and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Chief Whip Dilnath Giri and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic leader Yogendra Chaudhary seconded Khanal’s proposal.

NC Chief Whip Chinkaji Shrestha proposed Yadav and the party’s whip Ishwori Neupane seconded

the proposal.

The election result will be announced in the Parliament meeting at 5:00 pm today.
