Abductee rescued, two held

Kathmandu, August 8:

A police team from the Metropolitan Police Sector, Sorakhutte, rescued abducted Jit Bahadur Shrestha of Kavre from the Peace Night Hotel in Chhetrapati and arrested two persons early this morning. Shrestha was kidnapped yesterday from his residence at Samakhusi.

Ram Kaji Rana and Samir Lama of Sindhupalchowk, who kept Shrestha in the hotel, were arrested, when they were making phone calls to the family of Shrestha asking for a ransom of Rs three lakh, police said. The police also arrested Chandra Lama, a guide at the hotel, on the charge of helping the duo in carrying out the abduction.

Tapan Dahal, inspector at the police office, said that their phone surveillance helped them to get a clue about the kidnappers, adding that Ramesh Lama, who masterminded the kidnapping, is absconding.

Meanwhile, another police team from the police station arrested six persons with a pistol and four unused bullets of pistol, a revolver and 12 unused bullets of revolver, five iron rods and one knife. Inspector Ramesh Thapa at the police station said that Himal Pariyar, Surendra Bir Tamang, Kiran Lama, Pawan Lama, Shishir Thapa and Ganesh Gurung were arrested with arms from the premises of Casino Royale at Durbarmarg.
