Absconding convict held for swindling Rs 5.5 mln out of doctor

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police on Sunday arrested a person, who had been absconding after being convicted of forging government seal and signatures for swindling Rs 5.5 million out of a doctor.

A special police team deployed from the CIB apprehended 34-year-old Saroj KC from Ranibari in KMC-26.

He is a permanent resident of Rawatbesi-4 in Nuwakot district, currently residing in Gangabu area in KMC, according to police.

The Kathmandu District Court on June 14, 2016, had slapped 1 year 4 months and 15 days in prison and Rs 7 lakhs fine against KC.

After the court's verdict, KC was on the run.

Earlier, KC took advantage of Manoj Kumar Sah's failure to pass MC entrance exam in Bir Hospital, assured him of admission at the National Academy of Medical Sciences at the expense of Rs 5.5 million rupees.

Sah was working as a medical officer then at the Balaju-based Janamaitri Hospital.

Police further said KC produced forge documents sealed with Bir Hospital stamps to take his gullible target into confidence to swindle millions of rupees.

Meanwhile, police presented the convict before the Kathmandu District Court to execute the sentence.

The Court subsequently sent him to the Central Jail, Sundhara.
