Absconding red sandalwood smuggling convict nabbed

KATHMANDU: Police said an absconding red sandalwood smuggling convict has been arrested from Kandaghari of Kathmandu on Monday.

Punam Karki (37) was absconding after the then Patan Appellate Court on September 12, 2010 had handed down the sentence that the woman from Bhimeshwor-10 of Dolakha district be fined Rs 1.09 million.

But, a team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police found her in Kandaghari, KMC-35.

Meanwhile, she was produced before the Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday and the Court sent her to the Sundhara-based Central Jail to execute the sentence, police informed.
