Absence of varsity senate crippling TU

Kathmandu, October 29:

Six months after the appointment of vice-chancellor, Tribhuvan University (TU) is still limping all along its way due to the absence of university senate, the apex body of the university.

The university programmes conducted last year have not yet been sanctioned. “We are really concerned about the meeting. We have yet to get approval from the senate for our budget and programmes,” said Prof Dr Madhav Prasad Sharma, vice-chancellor (VC) of the TU.

The senate meeting must be held twice a year — in Ashad (July/August) to sanction the budget and in Pous (December/ January) for the review. The university has

missed out three senate meetings.

The university could not organise convocation last year and it is highly unlikely that it will be able to organise it this year. “There are a few nomination to make for the ex-officio members of the senate,” he said.

The senate members should be informed about the meeting at least 15 days prior to the scheduled date.
