Action against graft accused constable

Kathmandu, January 16:

Kathmandu District Police Office, Hanumandhoka has recommended to the Police Headquarters for “appropriate departmental action” against a police constable who took bribe from a goldsmith for remaining silent over latter’s illegal deals.

A police official said, “We have recommended appropriate action against Lal Bahadur Thapa who was caught red-handed along with three other constables while bargaining for a bigger amount with goldsmith Padam Ghimire.” Thapa is on deputation at the KDPO.

“Departmental action may mean warning, stopping promotion, reducing grade, demotion, suspension and expulsion from the job,” the official added.

Three detained constables have been set free.

Thapa had already taken Rs 2,000 and a gold chain weighing half-a-tola from Ghimire. He was, however, caught after Ghimire tipped-off the Kapan Area Police Office after Thapa went to Ghimire with three others to take the promised amount (Rs 6,000) and refused to settle for the promised amount.
