Action sought against policeman

Kathmandu, May 30:

The Valley Police Office has recommended the Police Headquarters to take departmental action against police inspector Govinda Pathak, who has been alleged of beating up some Maharajgung locals. Pathak, if convicted, may be either reprimanded, suspended, demoted or his promotion stopped.

According to police sources, Pathak, who is with the Surkhet district police office is currently staying at his Maharajgunj residence. He entered into a brawl with some locals who were on a night patrol to secure the village. Pathak beat up some of them mercilessly without any provocation, the sources said.

The locals protested against the police personnel this morning by burning tyres and demanding action against Pathak. Tensions cooled only after Pathak apologised to the locals and the Valley Police assured the latter of action against the culprit.
