ADSL service yet to be restored in quake-hit areas
Bhaktapur, August 5
Though more than a year has passed since the earthquake, Nepal Telecom has yet to restore ADSL service in some quake-hit areas of Bhaktapur.
According to locals of Golmadi in Bhaktapur, they filed a complaint at Bhaktapur branch of Nepal Telecom three months after the earthquake but the office has yet to restore the service.
“More than seven months have passed since we registered the complaint, but it is still not certain when the service will be restored,” said Roshni Shahi, a local.
She also said that although she visited the telecom office at least once a week, officials always told her that the service would be restored within a day or two.”
The earthquake of April 25, 2015 had destroyed many houses and disrupted telephone and ADSL services in Golmadi.
Niraj Bajracharya, chief of the Bhaktapur branch of NT, said, “We couldn’t restore the service as we were facing shortage of cables as our first priority was to fix the telephone lines.” He also assured that they would soon restore the ADSL lines in the quake-hit areas.
Bikal Manandhar, a local, claimed that although some subscribers had filed complaints, the office had done nothing to restore the service.
