‘Editor’ caught extorting, brought to media gaze

Kathmandu, September 15:

The Tamang National Liberation Front (TNLF) told journalists at its office today that its activists had nabbed Purna Bahadur Mijhar, a native of Taul of Narayansthan VDC-2 and the self-proclaimed editor of The Collection fortnightly, his accomplices Kedar Sunwar, of Siddheshowr VDC-3, Sindhuli, and Ramhari Chaulagai, of Pokharichauri VDC-3, Kabhre, while they, posing as activists of the TNLF, were extorting money from businessmen near the Gopikrishna Cinema Hall at Chabahil yesterday.

The TNLF made the three persons public at its office today among journalists. “Mohan Lama, identifying himself as a member of the front, guided me to extortion, saying I could have half of the booty,” Mijar told journalists.

According to him, his magazine has the registration number 185/059/060 and some 1,000 copies have been published almost regularly for three years. The Valley coordinator of the TNLF, Nanibabu Tamang, said the three had admitted to have collected as much as Rs 33,000 from Bouddha, Chabahil, Mahankal and New Road in several days.
