‘MDG goals least likely to be met’

Kathmandu: Nepal is least likely to achieve the AIDS-related Millennium Development Goals (MDG) given its current level of response, said UNAIDS Regional Director, Prasada Rao, who visited Nepal from Thursday to Saturday.

Stating that ‘HIV spread’ be taken as development agenda, he stressed participation of the community affected by HIV. According to the MDG targets, Nepal will have to halt the spread of HIV by 2015. Prasada suggested that Nepal will have to form credible and independent institutional mechanism to rule out a pandemic in the future. Civil society expressed serious concern over the lack of access to funds due to complex rules governing funding.
