‘Enough buses for Dashain passengers’

Kathmandu, September 14 :

Transport entrepreneurs today claimed there are enough buses to take all passengers home for Dashain.

“We have enough buses and will make them available as per the demand,” said Devi Chandra Joshi, president of the Mid-Zone Bus Entrepreneurs’ Association (MZBEA).

The MZBEA opened its counters for booking tickets for Dashain from August 29. It MZBEA owns some 150 vehicles and about 80 buses head every day to different destinations, Joshi said.

As we have enough buses to cater to passenger pressure during Dashain, we will open our counters for booking tickets only after September 17, said section head of the Prithvi Highway Bus Entrepreneurs’ Committee (PHBEC) Sudhir Acharya.

One vehicle belonging to the committee leaves the New Bus Park every 5 to 10 minutes for various destinations along the Prithvi highway, he said. Some 80 buses, minibuses and microbuses head to various places, he said.

Yadav KC, who works at the New Bus Park, claimed the flow of prospective passengers at the buspark has not increased as expected because private transport companies are mushrooming in the city.

Inspector Shyam Adhikary had organised a meeting between representatives of the transport entrepreneurs associations a week ago to control unhealthy competition among the entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, the Ward Police office Shorh-akhutte nabbed two ‘mediators’, who were selling tickets outside a ticket counter at the New Bus Park.
