Alleged traffickers held, women rescued from Naagdhunga

KATHMANDU: Police on Tuesday arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in a women trafficking case, from Naagdhunga of Kathmandu.

The suspects have been identified as Laxman Sapkota (36) of Baglung and Rimjim Tamang (28) of Sindhupalchok. The arrested duo were currently residing in Makalbari of Jorpati.

A joint team of personnel deployed from the Metropolitan Police Sector, Naagdhunga and Maiti Nepal also rescued two women during an inspection of a minibus (Ba 2 Kha 2058) en route to Pokhara from Kathmandu yesterday.

According to the police, the women were being trafficked to India.

Police said, it was learned after their investigation that Sapkota had received Rs 6,000 from another person for taking the women to New Delhi while Tamang had received Rs 10,000 to take them to Qatar in order to sell them.

Police said further investigation is underway.
