Anaesthetists in Bir hospital call off strike

Anaesthetists in Bir Hospital, who were on strike, are set to resume their duties from tomorrow after talks between the Health Ministry officials, the Bir Hospital management and representatives of the anaesthetists were fruitful. Dr Banshidhar Mishra, state Health Minister told this daily that the meeting was fruitful as the agitators agreed to resume their duties.

“We will begin paper work on the promotions of anaesthetists within a couple of days and discuss the issue with the Nepal Medical Council,” Mishra said.

Dr Brahmadev Jha, head of the department of anaesthetics, said only a 50 per cent increment in the salary was agreed upon due to paucity of funds. The anaesthetists went on a strike ten days ago demanding a 200 per cent increment in their salary, promotions and permission to teach in the hospital. All surgical wards were closed except for the emergency ward.
