ANNISU-R activists vandalise

Kathmandu, December 20:

Students affiliated with the Maoist students wing vandalised Kantipur City College in Putalisadak today, claiming that the college had refused to recognise the formally elected panel of the Students Welfare Council.

According to the students of KCC that is affiliated with the Purbanchal University, the council members smashed windowpanes, damaged a few computer monitors and a few chairs. Following the vandalism, some 14 students were arrested by the police on the charge of vandalism.

Newly-elected president of SWC Bisweswar Poudel said the election of SWC was held on December 10, but the college administration had failed to recognise the 17-member elected panel of the council which lead to the vandalism of the college property by the irate council members today.

“We had served a week-long ultimatum to the college administration to formally recognise the elected panel,” he said, accusing the college administration of delaying matters since all the elected members of the council were affiliated with the All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary.

While coordinator of the mass communication faculty of KCC, Rajiv Timilsina said the trouble brewed after the election officers had resigned.
