ANNISU-R stages sit-in

Kathmandu, February 18:

Calling for the establishment of School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination centres in remote areas as well, the All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) today organised an hour-long sit-in in front of the Office of Controller of Examination (OCE), Sanothimi.

The student wing of the CPN (Maoist) also submitted a memorandum to the OCE and demanded that their requests be heeded at the earliest.

Previously, the OCE had established examination centres in district headquarters and urban areas on security grounds. In a press release, Lekhnath Neupane, the ANNISU-R president, urged the OCE and the government to make a provision, allowing students to give the examination in their schools.

“The examination should not be conducted by surrounding examination centres with armed security personnel,” Neupane said.

He warned that the ANNISU-R will announce a strike during the SLC examination if the government does not heed their demand.

This year’s SLC examination will be held from April 4 to April 12. Compared to the last year, the OCE has increased the number of examination centres.
