ANNISU-R wants change in TU Act
Kathmandu, July 10:
The Maoist-affiliated student wing, All Nepal National Independent Students Union -Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), today demanded change in the Tribhuvan University Act, according to which the Prime Minister is the chancellor of the university.
A memorandum by the ANNIS-R said a person from the academic sector should be appointed as the Chancellor of the university.
Among other demands the student body presented in the memo submitted today to the TU vice-chancellor Dr Govinda Sharma, are demand for a provision to appoint a new vice-chancellor three months before the termination of the VC’s tenure, changing the names of the colleges including TU and its affiliates, fill the vacant positions of campus chiefs at the colleges immediately and reform the examination system.
The memo, signed by the union’s chairman Lekhnath Neupane, has also demanded hostel facilities for the students coming from remote areas; amendment in the regulations regarding the Free Students Union and its elections. Meanwhile, receiving the memorandum, VC Dr Sharma said he was positive on all the demands raised by the ANNISU-R, but could not move to meet the demands due to lack of officials in the top posts, including the Rector and Registrar.
