Kathmandu, May 4

The Supreme Court today issued an interim order against the appointment of journalist Dipak Pathak in the Press Council Nepal.

The Ministry of Information and Communications on Friday appointed Pathak as a member of the press governing body.

A single bench of Justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana issued the order against the government in response to a writ petition filed by Ram Kumar Rijal.The petitioner has named the Ministry of Information and Communications and its secretary as defendants.

The petitioner has said that a case of code violation was sub judice against Pathak at Press Council of Nepal and hence he should not be appointed in the body. The bench also issued a show cause notice against the defendants.
