Army chief remarks breach CPA: UCPN-M

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu, March 13

Office bearers of the Unified CPN-Maoist in a meeting today claimed that the recent remark of the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Chhatra Man Singh Gurung on army integration was against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Emerging from the meeting held at the residence of Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in Naya Bazaar UCPN-M Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’, said, “We have concluded that Gurung’s remark is a threat

to the ongoing peace process”.

Gurung, during his meeting with the UN under Secretary General for Political Affairs B Lynn Pascoe on Friday had ruled out group entry of the Maoist combatants into the Nepali Army. Shrestha said the democratic army should abide by the decision made through political agreement.

He said the party has decided to urge the NA for the logical conclusion to the peace process. One of the participants of the meeting said they also discussed motion of no confidence against the government. However, Shrestha refuted that the no confidence motion was being prepared.

Nevertheless, more than 100 Maoist lawmakers had gathered at the UCPN-M parliamentary party office at Singha Durbar yesterday to discuss on calling special session of the parliament and table the no-confidence motion against the incumbent government.
