Artists donate for quake victims

Kathmandu, July 19

A group of artists have donated Rs 4.30 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

The artists under the coordination of modern singer Tilak Bam Malla had raised relief fund by organising a fund raising cultural programme in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Artists such as Rajesh Hamal, Deepak Raj Giri, Deepashri Niraula, Teria Magar, Aastha Raut, Indra GC and Samjana Lamichane Magar had performed in the cultural programme coordinated by Malla.

Malla added that drinking water was distributed to earthquake victims sheltering in makeshift tents in Tundikhel. He had also performed in various concerts for children sheltering in makeshift tents at Boudha.

Likewise, stationery goods were distributed to more than 2,000 schoolgoing children of Kathmandu and Sindhupalchowk.

According to Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction Portal (NDRRP), the total death toll in the quake reached 8,897 and 22,221 people were injured and 800,000 family homes were either damaged or destroyed in the April 25 earthquake and its subsequent aftershocks.
