ASI dismissed over affair with East Timor woman
KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has dismissed ASI Yadav Mahat from service and disqualified him from holding any other government posts in future for making a bid to tarnish the image of the organisation at home and abroad.
Yadav, who was deployed for the UN peacekeeping mission in East Timor last year, had promised Marta Belo, an East Timorese woman, the moon but failed to live up to his promises after having cohabited for nine months.
“Yadav took her to Nepal after completion of his term in African country, but left her to fend for herself in Kathmandu,” said DIG Bigyan Raj Sharma, spokesperson, NP.
NP took a tough action against him, acting on a complaint lodged by the stranded African woman, he added.
A complaint letter submitted to NP on January 17 stated that the African woman was madly in love with Yadav during his nine months of peacekeeping operation in East Timor, where the cohabiting couples lived together.
Marta’s world fell apart when Yadav apparently changed his love tone. She had been left with no options but to knock at the door of the Nepal Police, seeking for justice.
“He brought me to his home but left me to fend for myself. When I confronted him, he threatened me for life. He didn’t live up to the promise,” Marta stated in the complaint letter.
NP formed a probe committee to look into the case under the chairmanship of a DSP. The committee found Yadav guilty of indulging in activities that were inconsistent with the Police Regulations 2049 BS.
According to DIG Sharma, ASI Yadav is disqualified to hold any government post in the future as per Section 88 and Section 84 (6) of the regulations. Details about the convict were not immediately known.
DIG Sharma informed that the Central Welfare Fund (CWF) of the Nepal Police incurred a cost of around Rs 1 million in her rescue, including the air travel back home on the third week of January. “CWF procured her around Rs one million for the purpose,” Sharma said.
The move follows NP’s clean-up drive in the organisation.
