Badi folk announce sixth phase of stir

Kathmandu September 22:

The National Badi Rights Struggle Committee today announced the sixth phase of its struggle that entered 37th day.

Organising a press meet at Bankali Dharmasala today, NBRSC member-secretary Sanjay Bikram Badi said the sixth phase of the struggle would begin tomorrow and last for three days. “Wearing black stripes on our heads, we will stage an hour-long sit-in in front of the PM’s residence in Baluwatar on Sunday morning,” he said. The Badi people will stage an hour-long sit-in in front of the ministers’ quarters in Harihar Bhawan on Monday. On Tuesday, they, along with representatives of various Dalit organisations and organisations working for women’s rights, will stage a sit-in at the Southern gate of Singha Durbar.

Sanjay expressed deep concern about the government’s indifference to their movement and asked mediapersons to make the government listen to their woes. Convener of the Dalit Nagarik Andolan Binod Pahadi said his organisation had been backing the Badi people’s movement from the beginning. Only a handful of journalists, most of them from FM stations, attended the press meet.
