Bandana Rana elected UN CEDAW vice-chair

KATHMANDU: Bandana Rana has been elected the vice-chair at the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (UN CEDAW).

Rana was elected for the two-year term as the UN CEDAW vice-chairperson today.

Her election as the expert member of the committee in June 2016 and her new appointment are both firsts for a Nepali.

A former media personality and a renowned social activist, Rana was elected as one of the 11 new members on the committee in 2016.
