Basnet’s reappointment at SWC protested

Kathmandu, July 4:

The ad-hoc committee of the Social Welfare Commission Employees’ Association today organised a sit-in protest in front of SWC gate, Lainchaur, against the reinstatement of Dr Prabha Basnet as member secretary of the council.

A Cabinet decision yesterday had reinstated Basnet to the post.

Yadav Dahal, assistant director of SWC said, “Basnet is not fit for holding the post of secretary of the council because the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has charged her for corruption at SWC.”

Dahal said Basnet had misused office property for her personal benefit and distributed SWC fund to royalists and her favourites.

“She is against democracy and had welcomed King Gyanendra’s February 1 takeover,” said Dahal.

The committee today handed over a memorandum to the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare to scrap the cabinet’s decision.

Basnet was appointed as the member secretary of the SWC in 2003 by the Surya Bahadur Thapa government.
