Beloved stabbed to death

KATHMANDU: A woman today succumbed to multiple knife-injuries afflicted by a youth. Dan Bikram Thapa, 25, yesterday afternoon repeatedly stabbed Sumitra Rai before turning the knife to himself in Koteshwor.

Rai, hailing from Udaypur, died this morning while undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Medical College in Sinamangal. Thapa, originally from Gorkhe- 4 of Ilam, is receiving intensive care at the hospital. Their details were not immediately given.

According to Inspector Gaju Siddhi Bajracharya at Metropolitan Police Circle Baneshwor, Thapa had pounced upon her with a sharp weapon for allegedly ‘tarnishing his image’. “A few days ago, Rai reportedly told her own brother that Thapa had made a bid of molesting her. Thapa, in belligerent mood, attacked her as the matter spread,” Bajracharya said after preliminary investigation. The two are said to have fallen in love with each other. The incident occurred near SOS Balgram at around 2:30. Police have recovered Thapa’s driving license and an identity card of Rai issued by Crystal Multi-Purpose Co-operative.
