Bhaktapur bandh today

KATHMANDU: Joint Citizens’ Struggle Committee formed by the kin of the three youths killed and another critically injured in Bhaktapur’s Chapacho staged a sit-in in front of Singhadurbar today, seeking stern action against the guilty.

“This is the best way to press the government to meet our demands,” JCSC member Sukaram Lama said. “All we need is an end to impunity, punishment for the guilty and relief for the kin of the victims.” The committee enforced the closure of all educational institutions in Bhaktapur today. “We will shut down Bhaktapur tomorrow,” said Sukaram. “We will burn tyres at Pepsi Cola, Purano Bato Thimi, Lokanthali, Kaushaltar, Naya Thimi, Sallaghari, Suryabinayak and Chyamasingh.”

The committee has written to organisations and industries to that effect, warning them they would be responsible for the damages if they did not support the bandh. It has accused the government of ignoring their demands. Bhaktapur District Administration Office had earlier agreed to recommend relief and inclusion of an JCSC representative in the probe committee.
