Chhaimale, June 15:

At a time when the condition of roads linking Kathmandu with the rest of the country is worsening, locals here in Chhaimale VDC of Kathmandu have come forward to widen the road linking Kathmandu with Hetauda. They claim it as the best alternative road to reach Terai from the valley. The widening of the 25-year-old road began from Makwanpur side a year ago, has now reached at Chhaimale. The road was constructed using local resources. Hoping to cash the benefits they could cash after the completion of the road, locals have contributed to the construction of the road. It helped Kathmandu and Makwanpur DDCs and VDCs concerned to complete the road. The road passes through Sisneri and Kulekhani VDCs and touches Epa Panchakanya and Kogate VDCs of Makwanpur.

According to the outgoing chairman of Sisneri VDC, Subash Chandra Thakuri, Makwanpur DDC has contributed over Rs 1 million for the widening of road within the border of the district and said Kathmandu DDC was also positive towards the widening of the road. The locals demand government support for the widening of the road. They say over one and half crore rupees has already been spent for it.
