Big fish in CIAA net: Ex-chiefs of APF post millions to get released on bail

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Sunday evening released three former chiefs of the Armed Police Force -- Basudev Oli, Shailendra Kumar Shrestha and Sanat Kumar Basnet -- on bail.

The anti-graft constitutional body had summoned them to record their statements over corruption charges and sought Rs 7 million from Oli, Rs 10 million from Shrestha and Rs 80 million from Basnet as bail earlier in the afternoon. They are accused of producing fake bills and documents to embezzle millions of rupees from the state coffers.

According to the CIAA, they posted bank guarantee as bail for their release.

Earlier on December 17, the CIAA had recommended the government to suspend the sitting APF IG Kosh Raj Onta alleging him of embezzlement. Onta was suspended the following day.

Onta had escaped the custody by posting Rs 100 million bail on December 21.
