Bijukchhe urges PM to let local bodies handle reconstruction

KATHMANDU: Nepal Workers and Peasants Party Chairman Narayan Man Bijukchhe on Monday told Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to let local bodies manage post-earthquake reconstruction works at the local level.

While Oli was at his home in Kamal Binayak of Bhaktapur today, Bijukchhe said only local bodies could solve various problems including disputes over distribution of relief amounts which are very likely during the reconstruction works.

"The local bodies can manage lands to those who do not have homes or lands," Bujukchhe told the Rastriya Samachar Samiti after the meeting, "That is why, we have asked him to handover the reconstruction responsibility to the local bodies."

In response, the Prime Minister said he would take an appropriate decision in consultation with the National Reconstruction Authority.

Bijukchhe had urged the government to accelerate the reconstruction works so as to give relief to the people at the earliest and ensure that people without land registration certificate also have an access to the government facilities, according to the Rastriya samachar Samiti.

Both the leaders were accompanied by their spouses during the meeting.

The meeting had lasted for around 30 minutes.
