Lalitpur, October 27:

Thirty-seven households of Khokana, a village on the outskirts of Lalitpur, will soon be connected with community-level biogas plant and waste water treatment plant. The locals of ward 9, also known as Sano Khokana, have long been forced to discharge themselves in pit latrines.

“The construction of the biogas plant will not only solve the sanitation problem here, but will also lead to the utilisation of toilet and kitchen waste to generate electricity,” said Madan Krishna Dangol, president of the Community Learning Centre, Khokana. Dangol said locals are contributing 50 per cent of the total budget of the project of Rs 3.6 million through voluntary labour. The project is expected to complete by 2007.
