Book on Maghi released

Chairman of the Rajparisad standing committee, Parasu Narayan Chaudhari, released a book entitled Tilasankrant /Maghi here today. The book is penned by Shanti Chaudhari. The book comprises poems, articles and write-ups in the Tharu, Bhojpuri and Nepali languages on the festival of Maghi, the major festival of the Tharu community. The book also sheds light on representation of the Tharu community in national leadership, the recognised personalities among the Tharu community, the situation of Tharu Kamaiyas and Maghi songs.
Speaking at the programme organised to release the book, chairman Chaudhari said that the country should remember the contribution of Tharu culture, which occupies a large portion of population living in the terai region of the country. The author said that she has always tried to inform the people about the Tharu culture by publishing articles, poems and books on the Tharu community. Various speakers, including Dr Om Gurung of the Nepal Federation of Nationalities and Indigenous People, expressed their view at the programme.
