Man of Nepali origin contesting UK elections

KATHMANDU: A British national of Nepali origin is all set to file his candidacy for the snap parliamentary elections in the United Kingdom slated for June 8.

Dr Bachchu Kailash Kaini, a native of Kamalbari in Tanahun district, contest the elections in Dartford constituency. He is currently serving as the UK's Labour Party Councillor.

According the Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Kaini as saying that he would file his candidacy on May 11. It is the first time a British national of Nepali origin would be for the UK's general election.

According to Kaini, Dartford residents' health, education, transport and urban development are his prime agendas for the election.

He had entered UK in 2005 and became an active member of the Labour Party in 2013. Kaini became a General Committee member in 2014 and was elected one of the party's Councillors in 2015.

Before moving to the UK, Kaini had worked at the Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre as the head of administration and the Nepal Heart Foundation as programme officer.
