By-polls to test NCP’s popularity: Bhattarai

Kathmandu, November 14

Chair of the Federal Council of Samajwadi Party-Nepal Baburam Bhattarai has warned that victory of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) in the by-elections scheduled for November 30, would nurture autocracy and fascism.

In a political document submitted by Bhattarai at the Federal Council meeting of the party organised in Kathmandu today, he mentioned that the upcoming by-elections were barometre for gauging popularity of NCP, which leads two-thirds majority government. “Result of by-elections will be taken as reflection of the public mood towards the incumbent government. If the elections results go in favour of NCP amidst inaction of the government and rampant corruption, it will nurture autocracy and fascism,” read an excerpt of the document. Bhattarai said SP-N had fielded candidates for the by-elections “This will be the first elections after unification between two parties and hence the results should reflect some positive effects of the merger. We will do out best to win the heart of voters,” he said.

As per the document, the party needed to garner the support of people to realise the agenda of amendment to the constitution.
