Call for giving more teeth to metropolitan police

Kathmandu, January 20

Speakers at an interaction ‘Present Security Situation of the Kathmandu Valley and People’s Expectation from Police’ organised in the capital today called for strong legal and institutional framework to improve the security situation in the Valley .

Lawmaker Nabindra Raj Joshi, who is also the coordinator of Valley Parliamentarians’ Forum, underscored the need for giving more legal teeth to the metropolitan police.

“Rapid and unplanned urbanisation, and poor institutional and legal framework have added to security woes,” he stated.

Another lawmaker Udaya Shumsher Rana urged the Metropolitan Police Office to improve people’s access to police.

AIGP Pratap Singh Thapa vowed to take up the security issues seriously to create a safe environment for people to live in.
