Call to ratify Rome Statute

Kathmandu, July 6:

Amnesty International (AI) and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) have asked the government to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“Nepal now has the opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to the new system of international justice and to lead the fight against the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes,” AI and ICJ said today. Ratification of the Rome Statute, a statement issued by AI and ICJ said, “would give Nepal an important role as a state party since it would then be able to participate in the ICC’s oversight and governing body and to nominate candidates for judges of the ICC.”
