Callous users’ bodies at Sisdole in a soup

KATHMANDU: The Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilisation Centre (SWMRMC) is preparing to file a complaint against various users committees of the Sisdole Sanitary Landfill Site of Nuwakot district at the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) soon.

"We're preparing to file the complaint at the CIAA for not submitting the details of the budget taken in advance by the users committees from the government," said Dr Sumitra Amatya, general manager, SWMRMC. The budget was meant to carry out development projects in the area.

According to the SWMRMC, 11 users committees at Sisdole area were doled out at least Rs 150,000 each for carrying out development projects in the garbage affected areas since 2005. "However, most of them did not submit any report of the budget spent on the projects," said Amatya. "Therefore, we are compelled to knock at the door of the anti-graft body."

The users committees are affiliated with various political parties, including UCPN-Maoist, CPN-UML and Nepali Congress.

Amatya said that the CIAA was the authentic body to take action against them. "We will submit all the files to the CIAA within three weeks," she said. Ramesh Prasad Paudel, coordinator of the Sisdole Sanitary Landfill Site Struggle Committee, affiliated to the UCPN-Maoist, said that both parties - the government and users committees - were responsible in the fund embezzlement.

"The government should have monitored and checked the performance of the committees over the proper implementation of the budget," he claimed.

There was a bandwagon among the Sisdole locals to jump into blocking the garbage collection and disposal putting forth demands of funds to the government and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City asking for development projects.
