Campaign launched for justice to victims of international crimes

KATHMANDU: Civil society organisations TRIAL, REDRESS and Advocay Forum on Friday launched a joint campaign to demand justice for victims of international crimes in Nepal.

The campaign "Real Rights Now" was launched to draw the attention of the government to abide by the decisions of the United Nations and acknowledge the rights of the victims rights and needs, read a statement issued by the organisations today.

Though the United Nations Human Rights Committee (HRC) has time and again said that Nepal was responsible for gross human rights violations against its own citizens, the government has not shown any sign to compensate victims and provide justice, the statement read.

The failure to implement the decisions of the HRC could send a dangerous message that human rights violations could go unpunished that the Nepali justice system did not make victims' rights its priority, they claimed.
