Couple held

KATHMANDU: The police on Friday arrested a couple for its alleged role in looting cash and valuables in different parts of the Kathmandu Valley. A special squad deployed by the Metropolitan Police Sector, Sorhakhutte, arrested Anita Gurung and her husband Phinchok Sherpa, hailing from Namche- 8 of Solukhumbhu, for robbing a rented room of college students. The police also recovered a laptop, a mobile phone set and Rs 25,000 from the couple. The accused will be handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, on Sunday.

Man killed in mishap

KATHMANDU: Man Bahadur Ale (35), hailing from Kavre district, was killed when the motorcycle (Ba 27 Pa 740) he was riding on was hit by a tourist bus at Basundhara on Saturday. Pillion rider Jitendra Ale (27), who hailed from the same district, was injured in the accident. According to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, the injured are undergoing treatment in the TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. The police have impounded the bus and its driver -- Dinesh Thapa. Tension ran high for hours in the area following the incident.
