Govt official jailed

KATHMANDU: The Special Court on Tuesday slapped one year jail sentence to a government official convicting him in a corruption case. A two member bench of Gauri Bahadur Karki and Om Prakash Mishra slapped the sentence Madhav Raj Pokhrel and imposed a fine of Rs 7 million. Responding to a corruption case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the Special Court said that he could not produce enough evidences in order to prove his Rs 3.5 million worth property. He was the chief of several custom offices.

Judges’ appointment

KATHMANDU: The Judicial Council (JC) headed by Chief Justice Anup Raj Sharma has scheduled the nomination of chief judges in appellate courts and to decide on various complaints pending against dozens of judges very soon. The meeting of the JC is slated for Friday which will discuss over the appointment of the chief judges in the appellate courts. Four posts of Chief Judges in appellate courts and some appellate court judges are lying vacant as of now. A source also said that the JC will decide around 70 complaints pending against a numbers of judges of appellate courts and district courts. During today’s informal meeting, the JC members discussed on the upcoming agenda, a source at the JC said.
