Interpol's help sought

KATHMANDU: Metropolitan Police Range (MPR), Hanumandhoka has formally requested its headquarters to seek the help of Interpol to track down Babbu “Deepak Shahi”-- the key perpetrator of Jamim Shah Murder case -- and the shooters hired by him. The move follows a mounting pressure from the government to bring the culprits to book. The whereabouts of the culprits are yet to be ascertained. Babbu is believed to have fled to India. An official source said that the NP Headquarters will officially appeal to Interpol to cooperate with the law enforcement agency. The source also informed that the police were working out to establish the motive of the killing.

FM, HURPES accord

KATHMANDU: FM stations in various districts had showed their commitment towards producing programme that would help in creating peace, non-violence and tolerance in society in coordination with the Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES). A press statement issued by HURPES stated that they are airing the programme for pressuring the government to draft the new constitution within the specified time.

Women activists

Kathmandu: Women rights activists have called for conceptual clarity of legal provisions regarding the state restructuring. Hari Phuyal, advocate, said every word related to the provision for women should be defined as clearly as possible. Addressing an interaction programme organised by Jagaran Nepal, an NGO yesterday, he said, the constitution should ensure the rights of every women belonging to indigenous, Dalits, Madhesi, Muslim and marginalised groups. He warned of worse condition for women in federal state in case of unequal distribution of natural as well as other resources. Sarmila Karki, president of Jagaran Nepal, urged the concerned bodies to ensure equal rights for women while restructuring the state.
