Capt Rana’s sentence upheld
Kathmandu, May 25:
The Special Military Court led by Appellate Court judge Hari Prasad Ghimire today upheld the decision of the Military Court, which slapped a one-year jail term on Capt Robin Rana.
A three-member bench comprising Ghimire, Defence Secretary Baman Prasad Neupane and Legal Department Chief of Nepal Army BA Kumar Sharma upheld the decision.
The bench convicted him of being involved in a misconduct prohibited by the Military Act 2016 BS and 2063 BS.
The bench, however, revoked the Military Court decision to declare him disqualified for government service in the future.
Two years ago, Captain Rana, with the help of armed soldiers under his command, had abducted six police officials from the Durbar Marg Police Station, kept them at the Bhairavnath Battalion and tortured them over a minor scuffle at Thamel.
Rana had moved the Special Military Court against the Military Court verdict of one-year jail and his disqualification from future government service.
