CCWB condemns arson attack on school bus

KATHMANDU: The Central Child Welfare Board (CCWB) on Thursday said that its serious attention has been drawn towards an arson attack carried out on a school bus by an unidentified group this morning.

In a press statement issued today, CCWB Executive Director Tarak Dhital, said,”Children should not be made a target of fulfilling petty interests of any group and their right to get education in a peaceful atmosphere should not be violated under any pretext.”

Similarly, the CCWB condemned the use of children in carrying placards in support of a political leader on July 15 following new political developments in the country and urged all concerned not to use children in such activities in the days ahead and respect child rights.

Meanwhile, the Private and Boarding Schools Organisation of Nepal (PABSON) also condemned the arson attack on the school bus.

"A group claiming themselves to be the cadres of a sister organisation of the CPN-Maoist Centre carried out the arson attack on the school bus," said PABSON Chair Lachhe Bahadur KC.

Both the organisations have demanded stern action against the guilty and compensation to the victims.

The bus belonging to the Ideal Boarding School, Jhamsikhel, Lalitpur was torched by unidentified people this morning. The gang had stopped the bus carrying students of Lalitpur-based Ideal Model School and poured petrol over it then set it on fire.
