Charged-up minister bats for energy

KATHMANDU; Newly-appointed Minister for Energy Prakash Sharan Mahat on Thursday admitted that the Ministry of Water Resources was split into two ministries without adequate homework. Addressing a programme in the capital minister Mahat, however, said his ministry would focus on the activities to lessen the gap between the demand and the supply of the energy in the country. The ministry would adopt various short-term and long-term measures to fight the energy crisis.

He also pledged to create a friendly environment for the investment in the energy sector. “We have to ensure the consumers, the industrialists and investors that concerned authorities are committed to address the energy crisis,” he said.

Shankar Prasad Koirala, secretary of the MoWR also agreed that there was no consultation with the bureaucrats while bifurcating the ministry into two since it was completely a political decision.
